Our History

The firm finds its roots in Kissoon Singh Incorporated, a firm which was founded during the Apartheid era and at the time was one of the largest black law firms in Durban.

Our Founder, Ms Hajra Patel, Who has been practising law since 1983, served as a Director at J. Kissoon Singh Incorporated, for a number of years.

In 2001, Hajra Patel took over J Kissoon Singh Inc, as the sole director. After initially changing the name of the firm to Hajra Patel and Associates, the firm registered as Hajra Patel Incorporated in 2007. The firm presently trades as HP Attorneys.

In 2006, HP Attorneys was one of only 250 SMEs to be awarded shares in Standard Bank’s Tutuwa Trust, a Broad-Based Black Empowerment deal.

HP Attorneys through its tenure has ensured that it provides value added services to its clients. It has for many years, in fact from its inception, acted for private and public sector clients, including Standard Bank, Nedbank, Business Partners, the eThekwini Municipality and the Road Accident Fund.
